KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 – Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil issued a caution today to Umno Youth chief Dr. Akmal Saleh, urging him to avoid misinterpreting the decree of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim regarding the “Allah” socks issue. Fahmi emphasized that misinterpreting the decree would be inappropriate, given the king’s esteemed position in the Malay-Muslim community. As the communications minister, Fahmi stressed the importance for political leaders to heed the royal decree in order to quell the controversy surrounding the issue, especially with Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaching.

“I feel it’s enough. We’re approaching Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Enough is enough. Stop this controversy. The Agong has commanded not once, but twice (not to prolong the polemics),” Fahmi told reporters in Ampang. Despite the king’s warnings, Akmal has remained steadfast in his call for a boycott of convenience store chain KK Mart. Sultan Ibrahim previously cautioned against exploiting the issue, urging parties not to incite the public after granting an audience to KK Mart founder Chai Kee Kan. The government is keen on drafting the Music Act to ensure the welfare and sustainability of the music industry, with MyCreative Ventures Sdn Bhd being a leading agency involved in the process, according to Fahmi.
