PUTRAJAYA, April 18 – The Green Electricity Tariff (GET) program will continue for the year 2024 with an offer of 6,600GWj quota at a premium rate of 10 sen/kWj for low voltage users and 20 sen/kWj for medium and high voltage users. The GET program, a strategic initiative of the Government, offers electricity generated from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) electricity consumers who aim to reduce their carbon footprint.
Since its introduction in 2021, the GET Program has successfully cumulatively supplied 6,762 GWj of green electricity to 2,461 users across various categories, aiding them in fulfilling Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) commitments, particularly in greenhouse gas (GHG) avoidance. In response to encouraging feedback and international recognition, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) and the Energy Commission have reviewed the operation and subscription principles to maintain consumer confidence in the GET program.
The Government has decided to implement several measures to further enhance the program’s appeal, including exempting GET subscribers from the Imbalance Cost Pass Through (ICPT) charge for actual energy units consumed and reducing the GET tariff rates for 2024 compared to 2023. These initiatives aim to boost the transition to renewable energy and support corporate ESG commitments, aligning with Malaysia’s sustainable energy goals.
