KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 — A product bearing the image of the ‘Kaaba’, which was seized by the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) at a Batu Pahat supermarket, has been clarified as a mini ‘sejadah’ or prayer mat, not a doormat, by Aeon BiG (M) Sdn Bhd and its supplier, A&R Fashion Collection. In a joint statement, Aeon BiG and A&R explained that the confusion stemmed from the product being inaccurately labelled as a ‘doormat’. Upon learning of the error, the description in the Aeon BiG product management system was promptly rectified.
Both parties expressed hopes to quell any doubts and urged against speculation that could jeopardize societal harmony. A&R, a 100 per cent Bumiputera and Muslim-owned Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), specializes in syariah-compliant Muslim clothing and other products, including rugs, carpets, and mats. Established in 2007, the company has been a supplier to Aeon BiG since 2015 and remains committed to cooperating with JAINJ and relevant authorities to address any further inquiries.
