KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 — Time Internet users encountered significant difficulties accessing the provider’s services for several hours yesterday, marking what is reportedly the worst downtime incident in its history. The outage, lasting from 5:38 PM to 7:12 PM, was attributed to the failure of Time’s Secure DNS servers, according to an official statement released by the Internet Service Provider (ISP) at approximately 8:20 PM.
Both primary and secondary Secure DNS servers went offline simultaneously, exacerbating the severity of the disruption. Despite efforts to switch to backup DNS servers promptly, the ISP did not offer clarification on the initial cause of the servers’ downtime. While some customers managed to mitigate the outage by utilizing alternative DNS addresses, the solution was not universally effective. Notably, the incident affected approximately 40 per cent of Time Internet’s customer base.
Despite acknowledging the slow dissemination of information regarding the outage to customers, Time did not address the possibility of compensation or rebates for affected users.
