SanDisk, a subsidiary of Western Digital, has shattered the boundaries of memory card capacities with the introduction of the world’s first 4TB SD card. This groundbreaking innovation marks a significant milestone in storage technology, catering to the ever-growing demands of photographers, videographers, and content creators. The new SanDisk Extreme Pro SDUC memory card offers an unprecedented level of storage, capable of holding an immense amount of photos and videos.

With a capacity of 4TB, users can store approximately 31,000 uncompressed RAW images from high-resolution cameras like the Sony a7R V, or nearly nine hours of high-quality 4K footage. Leveraging the Secure Digital Ultra Capacity (SDUC) standard, Western Digital has paved the way for up to 128TB of storage on a single card, showcasing the remarkable progress in storage capabilities. While the 4TB SD card was showcased at NAB 2024 in Las Vegas, it is expected to become available for consumers next year.

Although specific pricing details have not been disclosed, it is anticipated that such cutting-edge technology may come with a premium price tag. Despite potential limitations in speed due to UHS-I technology, the achievement of fitting 4TB of data into an SD card merely 2.1 millimeters thick represents a remarkable engineering feat and underscores the rapid advancement of storage technology.
