GEORGE TOWN, April 26 — Malaysia is edging closer to the implementation of a dual 5G network in line with government policy, according to Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. Speaking at a press conference following his attendance at the “Connected Industries Day: Transforming Manufacturing with 5G and AI” event at Eastin Hotel, Gobind emphasized the government’s consistent direction towards establishing a dual network. He highlighted the progress, noting that certain conditions precedents (CPs) needed to be fulfilled by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), the current sole 5G network provider.
With the appointment of the board of directors for DNB, Gobind expressed optimism that the due diligence process, crucial for the dual network implementation, was underway and nearing completion. Highlighting the significance of swift progress, Gobind stressed the importance of focusing on the 5G rollout to ensure widespread benefits for both individuals and industries. As DNB’s 5G infrastructure coverage reaches 80.5% of populated areas by the end of March, and with over 11.2 million subscribers as of February’s end, the move towards a dual network is poised to usher in new opportunities and advancements in Malaysia’s digital landscape.
