SHAH ALAM, May 13 — Selangor will fully bear the cost of organising SUKMA 2026 and Para SUKMA 2026 without direct federal funding, according to state executive councillor Mohd Najwan Halimi.
He said the original RM100 million allocation has been reduced to between RM40 million and RM50 million, focusing mainly on sporting events and athletes’ welfare.
The opening ceremony venue has also been moved from Sepang International Circuit to a smaller location, in line with cost-saving measures ordered by the Sultan of Selangor.
Najwan said additional steps include reducing volunteers from 30,000 to between 3,000 and 5,000, while contingents must print their own accreditation cards.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Taufiq Johari confirmed Putrajaya will instead provide facilities and support services, including anti-doping test costs, for the Games scheduled from August to September 2026.
