GEORGE TOWN, May 17 – The upgraded Hospital Seberang Jaya has recorded a total capacity of 729 beds following its completion in April 2025, according to the Penang state government.

However, only 512 beds, or 70 per cent of the total capacity, are currently operational due to ongoing manpower shortages and the procurement process for medical equipment.

The state government said the Penang Health Department is actively addressing these challenges to ensure full operational efficiency.

Efforts are ongoing to optimise hospital services so that the upgraded facility can fully meet the growing healthcare demands of the Seberang Perai population.
