GEORGE TOWN, August 20 — The Penang State Government has granted PLB Engineering Berhad (PLBE) an extension until Oct 18, 2026, for its proposed Jelutong landfill closure and rehabilitation project.

State Local Government and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman H’ng Mooi Lye said the decision was approved by the State Executive Council on Aug 5.

The extension allows PLBE to complete outstanding processes and fulfil requirements imposed by relevant technical agencies.

The project includes the safe closure of the Jelutong landfill, provision of a new disposal site for construction waste and marine clay, and development of the rehabilitated land.

H’ng said the state will closely monitor the project to ensure full compliance with technical, legal and public-interest requirements.
