KUALA LUMPUR, August 13 — Malaysian authorities have stepped up health and environmental monitoring as haze conditions worsen across parts of the country.
As of 3pm yesterday, 11 monitoring stations recorded unhealthy air quality, while Serian, Sarawak, reached a very unhealthy API reading of 204.
The Health Ministry said healthcare facilities, medicine supplies and personnel are being prepared for a potential increase in haze-related illnesses.
The public is advised to reduce strenuous outdoor activities when the API exceeds 100, wear suitable masks when outdoors and stay hydrated.
Authorities said transboundary haze, local fires and prolonged dry conditions are contributing to deteriorating air quality.
