KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission office in Penang today received a report on the purchase of a bungalow by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng allegedly at below market price. MACC said it had recorded a statement from the complainant on the purchase of the house in Jalan Pinhorn.

The commission in a statement said MACC wants to clarify that the case relating to the purchase is a new development and MACC had not opened any file on it before this. In the meantime, it also said that MACC investigation earlier was only related to the rent of the house. MACC gave an assurance that it would investigate every report and information which had elements of corruption “without any preferential treatment”.

Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya, during a debate in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, called on the Valuation and Property Services Department to conduct a valuation on the property that Lim bought for RM2.8 million, claiming that the market price was more than RM3 million. Lim said today he had bought the 30-year-old double-storey bungalow on a “willing buyer, willing seller” basis.
