ROMPIN, April 30 – Motorists using the Kuantan federal road to Johor Baharu are advised to use alternative routes as the road in front of Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah will be closed from 8pm this Tuesday. Pahang Police Contingent Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department deputy chief and Rompin by-election deputy commander ACP T.Raveendran said the road will be closed as the vote tallying will be held at the Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah.

“The police will close three kilometres of the Kuantan-Johor Baharu stretch to ensure the vote tallying process runs smoothly. “The road will be closed at 8 pm, and will only be used by Election Commission (EC) vehicles carrying the ballot boxes, police vehicles and individuals with permission, it will be closed until the vote tallying ends,” he told in a press conference here Thursday.

He said an alternative route has been provided for road users and that motorists from Kuantan could use the route at the intersection in front of the Rompin Orang Asli Affairs Department (JAKOA) office. To avoid traffic congestion, a total of 20 traffic police will be present to control traffic along the closed road stretch until the EC announces the by-election result, Raveendran said.

Therefore, he advised motorists not to park their vehicles along the main road which will be closed and also along the alternative route to avoid traffic jams. “If there are vehicles blocking the road, the police will take stern action by towing the vehicles away,” Raveendran said.
