GEORGETOWN, May 13 – The decision made by the Penang Stat Government is to direct the Penang Island City Councils (MBPP) and Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) to absorb the Good of Tax (GST) was not for populist move, it’s alleviate the burden of the Penangites, said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng here today.
“Am I made the decision to lighten the tax burden is such a move of attracted criticism and populist. Is that impose the waves are considered a heroes,” said CM Lim Guan Eng in a press conference today. All of the administration of Johor, Penang and Terrengganu have announced their local governments will aborb GST which is impose on the services was provided since the taxes was implemented on 1 April 2015.
“CM Lim asked on why GST on Council services provided such as renting out halls. In the same time, he acknowledge that GST was not imposed on salaries and allowance too. Public services and goods are not for profit. They are to benefit the people ,” he added.
