GEORGE TOWN, Aug 18 – Penang Chief Minister YAB Lim Guan Eng hold a press conference today at Komtar and told the reporters about the Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) in Bayan Lepas will be partially closed during off-peak hours which is 11pm to 5.30am daily until Jan 31 beginning from today. The road that include for closing hours are Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway (LCE) stretch between Hilir Sungai Keluang 1 and Lebuhraya Kampung Jawa.
“The partial closure of the area was decided upon after yesterday’s ‘the historic traffic on Penang’ in the area. In the same time, the contractors will not be allowed to carry out work on the mid-span of the elevated highway as they need to stop their work for the order has been served on the 390m special span,” said Penang Chief Minister YAB Lim Guan Eng.
Penang Chief Minister YAB Lim Guan Eng added that the time who allow them to work at other parts of the highway such as follow up works where the risks are very low and non existent with starting from 11pm to 5.30pm. The 3.2km elevated four-lane on BLE are carriageway runs in parallel with the coastal LCE. Meanwhile, it also will be connected to the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge to the LCE near Queensbay Mall once it had completely done.
