PUTRAJAYA, Aug 30 – Awareness of the use of seat belts in the passenger seat of the car is still low at seven to nine per cent, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai. Therefore, he said the ministry would intensify its campaign back seat belts in the back seat as well as increase enforcement by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the police.

“I hope that people accept the advice as it for their own good, we had to enforce. I do not like to penalize people but if there is no enforcement, legal compliance is very low. The government would take a more assertive and effective in reducing accidents. Last year, about 180,000 accidents occurred nationwide, involving 6,674 deaths,” he told reporters after welcoming the participants Convoy Love Freedom 2015, here on Sunday.
