KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 – Police said the documentary about the death of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu in 2006 which was aired by the Al-Jazeera media agency recently that the report was based on mere allegations. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar slammed the documentary as an attempt to introduce new evidence in the case when it had already been tried in court.
“Police will also conducting an investigation under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code is a statement of concern to public mischief. Police believe there are certain parties distributing untrue information, which is associated with the journalists involved that provide the documentary. You (Al Jazeera), create reports based on hearsay, trying to create something from nothing and hear from people who do not speak the truth,” said IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
“We’ve completed the investigation and the case was brought to court, and it was decided … what are you trying to do ?,” he said when questioned by reporters of the agency at a media conference after the International Maritime Bureau Meeting here on Monday.
Khalid said the police is monitoring those who had provided information to the journalist concerned, and would be taking action against them. In fact, he criticized the documentary, which seems to be trying to put new evidence in the case, while the case has been discussed in court. Previously, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Salleh Said Keruak said the Al-Jazeera documentary was solely based on hearsay and not on real evidence.
