GEORGE TOWN, Oct 10 – Penang State announced today at Komtar here of the partial closure of the highway Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu between Highway Kampung Jawa and Hilir Sungai Kluang 1 of the project of upgrading the Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu (Bayan Lepas Expressway) from Batu Maung to Sungai Nibong (Queensbay) Pulau Pinang.
Independent Expert Engineers Panel appointed by the State Government to ensure the Safety of Bridge Construction Range Special (Special Span) has held a number of meetings and make site inspections to consider the applicant’s Department of Public Works and UEBM for extension of time cover. Consequently, the Independent Expert Panel Engineers has submitted a recommendation to the State Government.
In the meantime, the State Government has considered the recommendations of the panel and the proposed The Free Industrial Zone, Penang Companies Association – Frepenca and will taking into consideration importance of of Penangites. Besides that, the State Government also decided to allow the highway closure of the periods that will beginning on October 12, 2015. The closure of the highway as below:
- Every Monday until Friday – 9:00pm until 5:00am
– 9:00am until 12:30pm (Not for Friday) - Friday, Saturday, Sunday – Road close from Friday 9:00pm until Monday 5:00am
According to the UEMB, with the closure of the highway extension is expected that construction work on the Special Span can be completed in late March 2016 and the highway will be open back. Meanwhile, for the entire project is expected to be completed in June 2016.
