GEORGE TOWN, Oct 17 – The gang which struck at a jewellery shop in Chai Leng Park near here late last month had also committed similar hold-ups at jewellery outlets in other states. In the incident on Sept 29, five youths, one armed with a pistol escaped with jewellery worth about RM600,000 after robbing the outlet at 11.34am in Medan Kurau 1.
Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief, Datuk Zakaria Ahmad said police investigations revealed the five robbers belonged to an organised crime group which moved from one place to another to avoid police detection. He told reporters here on Friday that they are working with the ‘Special Task Force On Organised Crime’ (Stafoc) team of Bukit Aman to track them down.
Meanwhile, Zakaria witnessed the handing-over of duties by the new Penang Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief (JSJK), ACP Ramli Mohd Noor. Ramli, 57, formerly JSJK in Negeri Sembilan took over the duties from Penang JSJK deputy chief, Supt Teh Eng Hin who had been acting in that position.
