KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 – Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, who is also MIC president said at the opening of the party’s wings convention on Sunday that Barisan Nasional is facing its toughest challenge yet, so leaders must give satisfactory answers to the rakyat’s questions in order to remain relevant.

“Barisan is faced with challenges both inside and outside the parties, while MIC is battling internal conflict. The rakyat have a lot of questions, and it is important that the answers given are acceptable to rational thinkers. On the recent claims by certain groups that the position of the Malays is being threatened, there was no reason for the community to feel that way,” he said.

In the meantime, Dr S. Subramaniam also said that there was noting that Malays made up the majority in the government, civil service and the armed forces. He also observed that Malaysians nowadays, especially urbanites, were heavily influenced by social media, and this suggested a need to transform in attitude and mindset.

He said one of the biggest challenges is addressing the aspirations of respective communities represented by the different parties in Barisan. For MIC, he said that the Indian community feels left out of the nation’s growth, and seeks to be relevant. For the party, he lastly added that there were just  110% behind the Prime Minister and his leadership.
