GEORGE TOWN, Oct 31 – DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today said it makes no sense for Tony Pua to have to resign from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) before meet in the debate with 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) president Arul Kanda Kandasamy.

“He’s forcing Tony Pua to resign because he wants take revenge over the revelations that Tony Pua had made about 1MDB. How can a person ask another to quit first before a debate? A debate should be held without conditions,” he said. Meanwhile, the Penang lawmaker also claimed that some Umno leaders have agreed that Tony Pua should not be made to quit the PAC before debating with Arul Kanda.

“If Arul Kanda said Tony Pua should resign from PAC before the debate, this means the former must also resign from 1MDB. In the meantime, Arul Kanda should agree to the debate without conditions to show that he has nothing to hide. This issue is important enough (to be debated on live television) so that the people can see whether you are telling the truth,” said Lim.

“The issue was not about Tony Pua’s membership in the PAC but about 1MDB’s explanation of its reported RM42 billion debt pile, among other controversies linked to the state-owned firm. Tony Pua didn’t borrow RM42 billion or have RM2.6 billion deposited into his personal bank account. No DAP leader has that,” he said jokingly to the media in Bukit Minyak, Penang on Friday.
