KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 – Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was questioned by a team of three policemen from the Federal police headquarters from Bukit Aman today for about 45 minutes at the former prime minister’s office at the Albukhary Foundation building.

“I did not know what I was being investigated for. They asked questions, and I said I will not answer. I don’t answer. t was up to the police if they wish to arrest him over his allegedly seditious remarks made at the Bersih 4 rally in August,” he said when he was asked if he knew what he was being probed for, he replied in the negative.

Mahathir’s lawyer, Haniff Khatri Abdulla, when met by reporters outside the building said police officers Superintendent Azham Othman, ACP Muniandy and ACP Chey came to the office at 11am to question Mahathir over various matters. However, Haniff  did not mention specifically which incident or sections under the law Mahathir was being questioned over.

“Three gentlemen from the police came over to take a statement from Tun in the presence of the three members of our team,” he said while also adding that while some statements were taken, the team did advise Mahathir not to answer some questions and “Tun kept it simple.”

“Tun was well and healthy. He was very clear with what was happening and his answers were given with full clarity,” he added when he was asked if Mahathir would be called again for questioning, Haniff did not deny the possibility but stressed there was no real need for the police to question him again as “what needed to be said has already been said.”

According to Haniff, his team of lawyers were informed of the questioning by police two days ago although Mahathir’s office was aware of it earlier. He said am not at liberty to that information and sometimes we as lawyers also wonder why the police came and took his statement. If there’s evidence of wrongdoing, just arrest and charge Mahathir. He explained this while also not giving the details on when contact between Mahathir and the police was first made.
