GEORGE TOWN, Nov 10 – Penang MCA hit out at Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for being selectively for the forgetful of voters’ sentiment by implementing the Penang Outer Ring Road (PORR) project which was proposed by the previous BN state government.

The party’s state liaison committee deputy chairman Tan Teik Cheng said on Monday with the commencement of reclamation works, the Penang Third Link (Seberang Prai Undersea Tunnel project) is actually just a new packaging for PORR. He said before the 12th General Election, DAP had strongly disagreed with the PORR project but this day, it has implemented it in spite of public objection.

Besides that, Tan also said  other than the undersea tunnel, which will be built on reclamation land, there are three more outer ring roads including an alternative road from Tanjung Bungah leading to Batu Ferringhi, Air Itam to Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, and from Gurney Drive to Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.

“I can’t imagine DAP, which had opposed PORR, is the executor on Monday. Did they really understand how the voters feel about being cheated? DAP should actually celebrate when the federal government did not support the building of PORR. Why then does the DAP criticise the federal government for marginalising Penang?” Tan asked in a press statement yesterday .

“Did DAP come to an epiphany after becoming Penang state government? Did they suddenly understand the BN government’s good intentions? So, DAP should apologise to BN for their previous superficial misjudgement. Meanwhile, DAP must apologise to the voters. It only opposed for the sake of opposing in the past while DAP is marginalising the interest of voters!” Tan said.

“Although the Consumers Association of Penang, Sahabat Alam Malaysia, and a number of NGOs have vigorously opposed the reclamation works and produced a variety of evidence that the project would destroy the marine eco-system, Lim has turned a deaf ear,” he added.
