GEORGE TOWN, Nov 12 – Police have identified those involved in the robbery at a jewellery shop in Medan Kurau 1, Chai Leng Park, near here, on Sept 29. Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief, Datuk Zakaria Ahmad said police were working with the Bukit Aman special task force on organised crime (Stafoc) to detect the five male suspects.

He said police managed to get some important information about the group while he also believe that they will solve the case. Meantime, he also hope to get more time for the police to investigate.  In the 11.34am incident, five men, one armed with a pistol escaped with jewellery worth about RM600,000 after robbing the outlet in Medan Kurau 1, Chai Leng Park, here.

Based on the investigation, police believe the robbery was carefully planned and the five men included the driver of a car who was waiting for the four other men behind a house in Lorong Kurau 25. On another development, Zakaria said the security guard who was charged with murdering a Form Five student in Teluk Kumbar, near here, last month was also believed to have raped a private company clerk on Oct 8.

“In the incident, the victim, in her 20s, was sleeping in her family’s house in Teluk Kumbar before the house was broken into by a man, who then went into her room, covered her mouth and raped her. Following the incident, the woman lodged a police report and based on investigations, we believe the security guard was involved in the incident. The suspect is also believed to have raped the Form Five victim,” he said.

He said the investigation papers on the two rape cases were almost completed and police were waiting for the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) tests before submitting it to the Legal Unit head for further action. The body of Intan Suraya Mawardi, 17, a student of a secondary school in Teluk Kumbar was found lying under a blanket on her bed by her father at 7.30pm.
