BENTONG, Nov 14 – Pahang Forestry Department quarters’ occupants, who were evacuated following the landslide at Km 52.4 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway on Wednesday, are not yet allowed to return to the quarters due to uncertain weather conditions.
“The intermittent rain occurring over the area was feared to have an impact to the soil structure. When it rains, we get worried of the possibility of soil movement which can affect the safety of the quarters’ occupants,” said Pahang Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Morni Mamat.
“At present, the fire department, the Public Works Department, State Forestry Department and slope experts are investigating the condition of the soil in the area. As such, the occupants were only allowed to return to their quarters to take what they need and were required to return to the relief centre at Lentang Mosque,” he said. Approximately 25 occupants of the quarters were evacuated due to the landslide incident at 6.30 pm last Wednesday, but casualty was reported.
