BENTONG, Nov 14 – ANIH Berhad will position a 300-metre concrete barrier at KM52.4, Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway, which was flooded by mudslide on Wednesday. Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) director-general Datuk Ismail Md Salleh said the barrier, to alert road-users from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur, would be in place by Friday evening.

“It will also act as a retaining wall against debris that fall from the cliff onto the highway such as rocks and logs. However, before placing the barrier, we will clear the area of the boulder pieces, which we will leave alone if they are stable,” he told reporters after visiting the site today.

He added that the important thing that they must do on Friday is to clean the drains in the affected areas so that water can flow normally, and to speed up the clearing process. The landslide near Lentang-Bukit Tinggi at 6.30 on Wednesday blocked sections of the highway on both directions; there was no report of loss of life.

There were three private vehicles and a lorry were stranded but the occupants had been escaped safely. In the meanwhile, 25 occupants of the Pahang Forestry Department quarters were also evacuated to Lentang Mosque after the area was declared unsafe.
