KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 – The National Zoo will exhibit the giant panda cub of Xing Xing and Liang Liang starting on Tuesday. Its deputy president Rosly@Rahmat Ahmat Lana said here on Monday that the cub would be exhibited to members of the public from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm daily.

“We are fully prepared to control the situation if too many visitors came at one time. The giant panda cub, which was born on August 18, is now able to crawl and walk, but still inactive,” Rosly said, adding that all preparations had been made following the much-awaited exhibition.

The yet to be named panda cub now weighs 5.6 kilogrammes. A regular visitor of the National Zoo, Nizrul Khalid, 37, said he and her three-year-old daughter were excited and could not wait to see the cub closer. He said his daughter has imagined that the panda cub looks like her teddy bear. He said he want to take her to see for herself the differences between those two animals.

A big fan of giant pandas, Artikah Jaafar, 26, who has been following the news of the giant panda pair since their arrival in Malaysia, said she was very happy as their cub would be displayed starting from tomorrow. She said delightedly that she will be among the earliest visitors to view the baby panda on Tuesday.

The giant panda cub will only be in the country for two years before being sent back to China, while Xing Xing and Liang Liang will remain here for 10 years based on the Malaysia-China Giant Panda International Conservation Agreement. The pair was earlier known as Fu Wa and Feng Yi when they arrived in Malaysia on May 21 last year as a symbol of 40 years of diplomatic relations between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing.
