PUTRAJAYA, Dec 10 – The Foreign Ministry’s 2016-2020 Strategic Plan which was launched by the minister, Datuk Seri Anifah Aman is aimed at strengthening bilateral diplomacy and multilateral cooperation, as well as strengthening ASEAN. These were two of the six objectives of the strategic action plan. The other four were efficient and effective service delivery; promoting Malaysia through public diplomacy, and strengthening organisations and human resources.

“The ministry’s Strategic Plan is an important document which is also aimed at fostering a good work culture, including creating ‘esprit de corps’ among Wisma Putra staff. It is therefore, my hope that the 2016-2020 Strategic Plan acts as a guide to ensure ministries are able to provide excellent service at all times,” said Anifah during its launch at Wisma Putra here on Wednesday.

The ministry’s strategic plan was published in accordance with the 11th Malaysia Plan tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in May this year. Anifah said the plan was also outcome-based for set KPIs. He hoped the transition in the pattern to measure progress and performance would further raise the standard and quality of service delivery.

“Malaysia is now at a crucial stage in its development efforts towards the realisation of its goal of becoming a developed and inclusive nation in line with Vision 2020. Wisma Putra, as the implementer of the country’s foreign policy will continue to play a role in protecting and prioritising the country’s interest worldwide,” he said.

“Apart from that, Malaysia and the international community also faced issues of terrorism, transnational crime, climate change and migration which needed to be addressed for global welfare. In this case, as a member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council for the 2015/2016 session, Malaysia will strive to contribute towards a more just, peaceful and safe world,” he said.

“Meanwhile, the ministry’s Strategic Plan would be adopted from next month. It is hoped the plan will continue to be a living document appreciated by all ministry staff in providing excellent service always,” said the ministry’s secretary-general, Datuk Othman Hashim. A mid-term review of the 2016-2020 Strategic Plan will be held in 2018.
