KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 – Media practitioners covering the UMNO General Assembly 2015 are advised not to write speculative news reports to avoid confusion. Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the speculative news could mislead the public.

“Therefore, stop all the speculation, there is no need to sensationalise an issue just to pursue rating. As the largest party which is the backbone of the country, UMNO was exposed to attack from certain quarters to tarnish the party’s image,” Jailani, who is also Terengganu UMNO Liaison Deputy Chairman told reporters when met at the general assembly at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here, today.

He also reminded the media that actions could be taken against them if they write seditious and slanderous reports. If the news is seditious, he said the action can be taken under the Sedition Act, if the news is defamatory, they can take action under the Defamation Act. The five-day UMNO General Assembly 2015 beginning yesterday, brought together over 5,000 delegates from 191 divisions.
