PENAMPANG, Jan 4 – The implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rebate for prepaid cards starting from Jan 1 is proceeding smoothly, says Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak Sunday. He said the payment of rebate would be transferred automatically into the balance of the customer’s account within 24 hours after an airtime purchase.
In the meantime, he also said that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is still in monitoring the development and they have also asked the telecommunications companies from time to time to explain (to their customers) the rebate.
Salleh told this to the reporters at a Christmas open house organised by Penampang UMNO, here on Sunday. He said the rebate did not mean GST on prepaid cards had been scrapped. In additional, he also added that they are only giving rebate to Malaysian citizens, not to the foreigners.
