GEORGE TOWN, March 2 – The Transport Master Plan (TMP) will not involve acquisition of land from 197-year-old Penang Chinese Girls High School (PCGHS), said Chow Kon Yeow, state executive councillor Governtment, who is in charge of the local government, traffic and flood mitigation committee at Komtar here today.
“The project delivery partner, SRS Consortium, has given the latest update and suggestion that the Penang Island Links (PIL) alignment along Jalan Gottlieb will not affect PCGHS land. Besides of PCGHS land, land that owned by Indian Association and Phor Tay High School land, which along the area, would also not be affected by the PIL alignment too,” Chow said.
“The requirement for school to surrender a portion of the land to the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) was not because of the TMP. The condition was imposed as part of the requirement under the Council Draft Road Layout Plan which requires a portion of land for a development to be surrendered for Right of Way (ROW) areas,” he said.
“ROW areas may be used for future road expansions or other infrastructure works. This condition was set when PCGHS applied to build a nine-storey building in July 2013. The planning also approved in December at the same year. After a year, in December 2014, the planning permission was lapsed due to there was no renewal application was submitted by them on the time,” he added.
