GEORGE TOWN, March 15 – Siara 81 residents of a housing area in Sungai Ara, Penang, representing the group, were present in Komtar here today for submitting a memorandum to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, MBPP Mayor Patahiyah Ismail and their assemblyperson Abdul Malik Kassim.

Siara 81 residents committee chairman Loh Kan Swee said they are here want the developer of an affordable housing project next to them to find its own access way to the site instead of using the existing roads due to 40ft access road is not allowed for 87 units per acre.

He said according to the Town and Country Planning Act, a 30ft or 40ft access road is only good for 15-30 units per acre, for terrace houses or bungalows. He said he hope that MBPP must strictly enforce such laws and guidelines and also would like to urged Patahiyah to exercise her duty without fear or favour which do not approve the 120 building units per acre in the area.

He said if they insist on doing so, the developer must find its own access road. He said the residents were not against development nor were they oppose to the provision of affordable housing.
