GEORGE TOWN, March 16 – Twelve Penang Municipal Council (MBPP) councillors yesterday demanded a public apology from fellow councillor Dr Michael Lim Mah Hui and withdraw his allegation that MBPP towed only one car in a month. Councillor Harvinder Singh said the statement by Dr Michael Lim was completely untrue as in 2014, MBPP had purchased five tow trucks and since then the number of vehicles towed had increased.
He said the duty of the enforcement officers is not only to tow vehicles but to also ensure the smooth flow of traffic. He said they do not want to inconvenienc the people which theye will sound the siren at “hot spots” and will only resort to towing when the alert is ignored. He told this at press conference here Tuesday. Dr Lim in a statement published in Chinese dailies on March 1, was reported as saying MBPP had failed to carry out its responsibilities as it only towed one car in a month.
