SEPANG, March 22 – The Transport Ministry will be calling up the management of Rayani Air for clarification on complaints from passengers about dissatisfactory service, said its secretary-general Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim. He said the ministry was not happy that Rayani Air failed to improve the quality of service despite being issued a first warning last month and that it would not hesitate to issue a second warning if more concrete and comprehensive actions are not taken regarding the matter.
“Maybe what is happening in Rayani Air is unintentional, because they also have to give priority to safety. However, as the ministry responsible to supervise airlines, we want them to provide services to the minimum standards set,” he told reporters after launching Malindo Air’s Safety Week Campaign in conjunction with the airline’s third annniversary at the KL Interntaional Airport here Tuesday.
He was asked what action the ministry was taking following the complaints by its customers. On Monday, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai was reported to have said that Rayani Air, the first Syariah-compliant airline in the country, faces suspension if it failed to comply with guidelines set by the ministry and the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA). In the performance index, one of the requirements is that the airlines must meet 80% punctuality for arrivals.
