GEORGE TOWN, March 24 – Gerakan secretary Oh Tong Keong hold a press conference today at Gerakan headquarters said the second phase of homes for People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Taman Manggis, Penang was approved in July 2003 due to high demand.

He questioned why that the current government did not adhere to decisions made by the then Barisan Nasional (BN) administration. He said the memo showed the proposal to build an additional 14-floor block was discussed by the State Housing Committee in April and June that year, where the project received the approval.

DAP-led government should followed what have been decided for the benefit of the rakyat and not just sold out the land to private developers after they won the election in 2008. Phase I of the PPR project in Taman Manggis was completed in 2005 which consists of an 18-storey block comprising 320 units at 60.387sq m each while the proposed second phase was to be a 16-storey block with 160 units but it was scrapped by the DAP Penang government as it was deemed to be too small.
