IPOH, May 31 – Two Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) enforcement staff in Perak were remanded for five days from today to facilitate investigations into a bribery case involving RM8,000, three years ago. Magistrate Siti Hanum Mohmad ordered the remand against the two men aged 34 and 35 to assist in a bribery probe under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

The two enforcement assistants were arrested at Dataran Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh here at 10.45pm last night. The duo allegedly solicited and received the bribe from a 44-year-old businessman as an inducement not to take action against him for selling counterfeit liquor at two premises here in 2014. The offence carries a jail term not exceeding 20 years and a fine not less than five times the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, on conviction. — Bernama
