PUTRAJAYA, January 4 – A month into his tenure as Minister of Economy, Rafizi Ramli admits that it has given him enough insight to ‘run’ faster. According to him, maybe what is done will have an immediate effect and some results can only be reaped within a year or two or years to come. “God willing, if we work on 10, even if not all produce 100 percent results as planned, most of them will have a medium and long-term impact on the country.
“There are things that can be worked on so that the results are felt quickly, but most economic planning will take more than a year, while most of them take more time. That’s why I spent a month meeting and discussing with the main stakeholders of the country’s economy. They include policy makers, implementers, the private sector and other stakeholders.
“In general, all parties understand the economic direction to be taken,” he said in a tweet on Facebook on Tuesday. Rafizi added that the Unity Government is responsible for changing the direction of the economy towards a high-value economy so that the people get wages that can balance inflationary pressure.
He explained that many efforts to curb inflation can be implemented at the supplier level, such as accelerating high-tech investment in the food sector, controlling prices (by paying subsidies), increasing supplier competition (by dealing with monopolies) and increasing supply (including importing).
