KUALA LUMPUR, January 20 – The Film Censor Board (LPF), Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) performs duties based on the Film Censorship Act 2002 [Act 620] which stipulates the function of screening films and film publicity materials that are broadcast, exhibited, disseminated, screened, distributed or physically emitted (conventional ) to the general public in Malaysia, except through the internet. In issuing a decision on the censorship of film content and film publicity materials.

The LPF will examine and give special attention based on the KDN’s 2010 Film Censorship Guidelines (GPPF) which include the following aspects as Public Safety and Order; Religion; Sociocultural; and Order and Discipline. LPF is aware of the issues arising from the film titled “Pulau” which is gaining more and more attention among the general public in Malaysia after the promotion of this film began through the sharing of posters and movie trailers through social media.

The trailer of the movie “Island” was shown online (via an internet platform), so it was found that the content shown was outside the jurisdiction of the LPF. The movie “Island” is a horror movie and not a porn movie as advertised. LPF found that there is a difference between the trailer content shared on social media and the content submitted for censorship. LPF is always sensitive to the morals and socio-culture of Malaysian society and implements film screening as stipulated in the guidelines.

LPF appreciates views and feedback regarding film censorship in the country. LPF also always welcomes views from all parties, especially views that are constructive based on the overall content of a film.
