KUALA LUMPUR, February 1 – I would like to take this opportunity to firstly thank the Kedah State Government for announcing that Thaipusam Day as a public holiday in the state again for 2023. This auspicious celebration has become an important event and hope it will be marked as a public holiday for Malaysia and goes into the Tourism Calendar as well. Even though now it is only a gazette public holiday for 6 states like Penang, Selangor, Perak, Wilayah Persekutuan, Negeri Sembilan and Johor.
MIRA Party welcomes this announcement made by YAB Menteri Besar Negeri Kedah Dato’ Seri Haji Muhammad Sanusi Bin Md Nor and hopes it to be gazette as a State public holiday and the minority community should not be begging for this in the future. Similar announcement was made in 2016 by the former Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mukhriz Mahathir to make Thaipusam as state holiday. Thaipusam is a religious event where millions of Hindus thronged temples throughout Malaysia.
It is also important devotees taking part in this festive celebration observe absolute tolerance among one another to fulfill their pilgrim’s. Thaipusam has now become an event celebrated by all Malaysians and also attended by thousands of tourists from all over the world. MIRA Party hope Malaysians especially the Hindu that visiting and taking part in this festive celebration to celebrate this auspicious day in religious way and to take care of themselves and their children.
Be vigilant, tolerant in crowded area, not rush through the crowd and more importantly make sure rubbish are not littered everywhere and strictly ‘SAY NO TO ALCOHOLS’. We shall make the difference as the upcoming younger generation is the one going to take on the continuity of this auspicious celebration into the future. MIRA Party will be distributing foods and drinks for the pilgrims on Thaipusam day and will also be distributing about 10,000 packets of foods and drinks.
For the pilgrims on 6th February 2023 during the return of Chariot ‘Lord Muruga’ from Batu Caves in front of St. James Church along Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur. Wishing everyone ‘A Blessed Thaipusam’
