KUALA LUMPUR, February 3 – Last January 30, when I was in Sabah to survey the flood situation in Pitas District, I was informed by Abdul Manan Indanan, UMNO Head of Semporna Division about the incident of a wooden bridge and jetty that had collapsed on Pababag Island, Semporna. I understand that at that time, there were 35 school students and 2 teachers from the surrounding villages who had just arrived at the jetty to go to school at SK Pababag at around 6.20 am.
I have instructed the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) to immediately contact the Semporna District Office to investigate and take immediate action because the route is a normal route for the daily movement of residents including sending children to school and Tadika Kemas, Pababag Island. The Ministry has submitted an Implementation Instruction Letter to the Semporna District Office for the Reconstruction of the Pababag Island Bridge and Jetty with an allocated allocation of RM400,000.
I hope that the construction of this bridge and jetty can be implemented immediately to help at least 151 school students and 35 Kemas Kindergarten students go to school as well as villagers who are affected by their daily movements, due to the bridge and jetty that have collapsed over time.
