KUALA LUMPUR, February 15 – Chairman of the National Alliance (PN), Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin denied allegations that he was involved in awarding the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) contract to IRIS Corporation Berhad, which is linked to his son-in-law. According to him, it is a slander that was deliberately done and designed to scratch the dignity of him and his family. As the Prime Minister at that time, I was not at all involved in the process of awarding the NIISe contract to IRIS Corporation Berhad which was carried out through an open tender.

“The contract procurement process is made according to the government’s normal procurement procedures under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance and related ministries. It was not under my responsibility or jurisdiction as the Prime Minister at that time,” he said in a post on his Facebook, on Thursday. Muhyiddin said this in reference to a media portal report that claimed he was allegedly involved in awarding the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) contract to IRIS Corporation Berhad, which is linked to his son-in-law.

According to him, none of his family members have interests in IRIS Corporation Berhad either as company directors or shareholders. “How can I, who have no authority in the awarding of the contract and my family who have no interest in the company awarded the contract, be accused of abusing power for the benefit of myself and my family?” the question. The Pagoh Member of Parliament claimed that the matter was part of a series of malicious accusations against him by the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. “This accusation was deliberately made to cover up the extreme weakness of the prime minister and members of his government in appointing children in the government, including with the responsibility and authority to manage government contracts. “This practice of nepotism cannot be covered up by throwing baseless accusations at others,” he claimed.
