KUALA LUMPUR, February 18 – Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub hinted that targeted subsidy efforts are ready to be implemented. He said the ministry already has enough data supported by statistics from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), the Implementation and Coordination Unit (ICU) and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).

He explained that the implementation of targeted subsidies will be a complete solution to the cost of living issue as well as the leakage in the supply chain of goods that have been subsidized so far. If we follow the ICU at the end of December 2022, the number of extreme poor in our country is 127,000 households and if the B40 group as a whole is approximately 8.6 million.

The meal is ready, just wait for the imam to come and read the prayer. (Meaning) we can do it,” he said in the Dialog Poket Rakyat program on Friday. He said, the implementation will be able to save government expenses and more allocations will be able to be channeled to those who really need it.
