KEDAH, May 14 – Residents of several major areas in Kedah, Malaysia have been affected by an unscheduled water supply disruption that began on Sunday, 14 May 2023, at 7.25 am. The Darul Aman Water Company Sdn. Bhd. (SADA) has announced that the disruption is due to a sudden drop in the river level caused by damage to the Sungai Muda barrage gate. The disruption has resulted in the temporary suspension of operations at the Sungai Petani/Pinang Tunggal Water Treatment Plant (LRA) and the Kulim Hi-Tech LRA until the river level stabilizes.
An estimated 252,000 accounts have been affected, with areas including Sungai Petani, Bedong, Pantai Merdeka, Kulim, Lunas, Kuala Ketil and several other major areas experiencing unscheduled water supply interruptions. In response, SADA has activated its Operations Room and set up a hotline for users to channel complaints or inquiries. Water tankers will also be dispatched to affected areas, with priority given to critical premises such as hospitals, clinics, dialysis centers and funerals.
SADA will work closely with the Kedah State Water Resources Board (LSANK) to monitor the level of Sungai Muda and regulate the supply of raw water resources. Proactive measures are being implemented to overcome the disruption as soon as possible, and updates will be communicated through SADA’s official website and social media platforms. SADA understands the difficulties faced by consumers due to the unscheduled water supply interruptions and will continue to prioritize the well-being of its customers.
