KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced his intention to invite the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Hajiji Nor, and the Chief Minister of Kelantan, Datuk Ahmad Yakob, to find a solution to the long-standing water issue in both states. Anwar stated that he is committed to solving the issue and is willing to spend billions of ringgit to complete the work this year.
During his speech at the 2023 Unity Government National Convention, Anwar highlighted the importance of solving the water problem, saying that after 60 years of independence, the people should not be burdened with the lack of clean drinking water. He also expressed his hope that the state governments would cooperate fully with the federal government in realizing the objective of resolving the water issue.
“I will invite the Menteri Besar of Kelantan and the Chief Minister of Sabah and the team to find a way to solve (the water issue) even if billions of ringgit are needed,” said Anwar, “The important thing is that the people after 60 years of independence cannot be burdened until there is no clean water to drink.”
The announcement was well-received by the attendees of the convention, which was attended by over 3,500 invitees from the 19 parties that form the Unity Government. Anwar’s move to address the long-standing issue of water scarcity in Sabah and Kelantan highlights his commitment to the people’s welfare and is seen as a positive step towards ensuring that all Malaysians have access to clean drinking water.
