KUALA LUMPUR, August 8 – The highly anticipated Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference & Exhibition (APGH) 2024 is set to propel Sarawak to the forefront of the green hydrogen revolution and accelerate the growth of its hydrogen economy. Taking place from the 11th to the 13th of June 2024 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Sarawak, this event will bring together industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders to discuss the latest developments in green hydrogen technology, policy, regulation, and infrastructure development.

The demand for green hydrogen in the Asia Pacific region is projected to grow by 50% per year over the next decade. To meet this demand, there is a need to ramp up the development and construction of green hydrogen plants. Sarawak has already made significant progress in this regard, with hydrogen projects currently in the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) stage. The Final Investment Decision (FID) for these projects is planned for next year. By hosting APGH 2024, Sarawak aims to showcase its commitment to the green hydrogen economy and attract investors, collaborators, industry partners, and researchers to develop and grow the green hydrogen, fuel cell, and renewable energy-related business ecosystem.

YB Dr. Haji Hazland bin Abang Hipni, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Through APGH 2024, we will bring together leading experts from around the world to discuss the latest developments in green hydrogen. This event will provide a platform for businesses to network and explore collaboration opportunities. It is also an excellent opportunity for our youths to discover their passion and opportunities in clean energy, the energy transition, and in green hydrogen.”

Tan Sri Asmat Bin Kamaludin, Chairman of Borneo Business Connect, emphasized the significance of positioning Sarawak at the forefront of the Green Hydrogen Economy. The event aims to attract investors, collaborators, industry partners, and delegates to develop and grow the green hydrogen industry in Sarawak. It will serve as a platform for government-private sector partnerships and contribute to the development of a sustainable business ecosystem.

During the launch event, OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (OCBC Bank) announced its partnership as the Exclusive Financial Institution Partner for APGH 2024, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and decarbonization. Ms Tan Ai Chin, Senior Banker, Managing Director, and Head of Investment Banking of OCBC Bank, stated that the bank’s involvement is aimed at contributing meaningfully to Sarawak State’s sustainability initiatives. OCBC Bank’s efforts in supporting sustainability initiatives through sustainable financial solutions will contribute to the bank’s Net Zero ASEAN and Greater China target by 2050.
