GEORGE TOWN, April 27 – Today, the vibrant world of Malaysian textile heritage will unfold as IKAT 2.0: Penang Edition debuts at Loft29, George Town. With its theme “Tapestry of Tradition,” this immersive platform beckons audiences in the Northern region to immerse themselves in the intricate beauty of Malaysian East Coast Batik, against the cultural canvas of George Town. Spearheaded by creative studio EDT and presented by Yayasan Hasanah, IKAT 2.0 aims to deepen Malaysians’ appreciation for heritage textiles through immersive experiences and strategic collaborations, continuing its journey that began in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year.

The Penang Edition offers visitors a curated selection of engaging experiences, including live demonstrations of Batik creation, discussions on motifs and natural dye, and a fashion showcase highlighting upcycling and innovation. Themed “Tapestry of Tradition,” IKAT 2.0 promises to be a unique celebration of Malaysia’s rich textile heritage while embracing the future of cultural exploration. From immersive pavilions to hands-on workshops, this event offers a diverse and enriching cultural experience, fostering deeper connections with the treasures of Malaysia’s unique culture.

IKAT 2.0: Penang Edition is part of a series of pop-up experiential hubs touring Malaysia, with stops in Penang, Terengganu, and Sarawak, each showcasing unique themes, heritage textiles, artisans, and curators. The event is jointly led by Mahesh Naiker, Project Coordinator of IKAT, Khadijatul Azada, Lead-Curator, and Hanuni Ab Halim, Co-curator, with support from experts in textiles, crafts, arts, and fashion sectors.
