PUTRAJAYA, May 2 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reiterated the government’s unwavering stance against any party that touches on sentiments related to royalty, religion, and race (3R). During the Soal Jawab Perdana Menteri programme, Anwar emphasized that while freedom of speech is upheld under the Federal Constitution, it does not entail the freedom to criticize and insult indiscriminately. He highlighted the importance of respecting the institution of the Malay rulers and emphasized that the government will not compromise with those who violate this principle.
Anwar’s remarks come in the wake of allegations linking him and the government to discussions about a purported casino project in Forest City, Johor. He clarified that such claims are baseless and politically motivated, emphasizing that there was never any discussion with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, regarding the establishment of a casino. Anwar underscored the need for legal action against those propagating false allegations and called for firm measures to uphold the integrity of the government and the dignity of the Malay rulers. – BERNAMA
