KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Digital Minister Gobind Singh hailed Microsoft’s recent announcement of a US$2.2 billion (RM10.5 billion) investment in Malaysia as a testament to the country’s allure for major global investors. He emphasized that Microsoft’s commitment, alongside Intel’s RM70 billion investment pledge, showcased Malaysia’s capacity to accommodate advanced technology companies. Gobind expressed confidence in Malaysia’s infrastructure and location, highlighting its strategic position within ASEAN as a key factor driving investor interest.

He noted that such significant investments require substantial energy and infrastructure, which Malaysia possesses, making it an attractive destination for large-scale ventures. Microsoft’s investment aims to bolster Malaysia’s artificial intelligence and cloud computing capabilities, with plans to establish an AI centre of excellence and provide AI training to 200,000 Malaysians. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the investment, emphasizing its alignment with the government’s focus on developing AI capacity in the country.
