GEORGE TOWN, May 13 — A sudden electrical fault at the Bukit Dumbar Reservoir and Pump House Complex early this morning disrupted water supply to approximately 69,000 consumers in Penang’s Barat Daya district. K. Pathmanathan, the chief executive officer of the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PWSC), stated that their team is swiftly working under the emergency response plan protocol to fully restore supply by 5pm yesterday.
The fault, caused by a failure of an 11kV Medium Voltage Drive, halted operations at the Bukit Dumbar 2 Pump House, preventing the pumping of treated water from the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant to Barat Daya consumers from Gelugor to Bukit Penara in Balik Pulau. Despite the challenges, operations resumed around 6.30am yesterday, and as of 1pm yesterday, water service had been reinstated for approximately 40,000 customers, representing 58 per cent of those affected.
