ALOR SETAR, June 8 — Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has announced that the leakage in the underwater pipelines supplying water from the mainland to Langkawi will be addressed using specially crafted clamps from Germany. These high-durability clamps are essential for fixing the 23 identified leaks along the 36-kilometer pipeline. Sanusi revealed that an audit by experts highlighted significant treated water wastage due to these leaks.

The plan involves using elongated clamps, custom-made in Germany, which are recommended by specialists for their cost-effectiveness compared to complete pipeline replacement. Current repair methods using clamps are often disrupted by strong currents and vessel vibrations, necessitating the use of larger, more secure clamps. The frequent leaks have resulted in nearly 45 percent of daily treated water being wasted during transfer to Langkawi.

Syarikat Air Darul Aman Sdn Bhd (SADA), the state-owned water provider, reported substantial repair costs due to these ongoing issues.
