KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has expressed deep concern over the government’s decision to set the diesel price at RM3.35 per litre starting today. The Perikatan Nasional Chairman criticized the PH-BN coalition for disregarding the people’s struggles, emphasizing the significant impact of the 56% price increase from the previous rate.
Muhyiddin warned that the sharp hike would trigger economic shocks nationwide, with a multiplier effect on various sectors, further burdening the rakyat already grappling with high inflation and living costs. He doubted the effectiveness of the Subsidized Diesel Control System (SKDS) and the Budi Madani aid scheme, highlighting the stringent eligibility criteria and insufficient RM200 monthly aid for diesel users, including farmers. The former Prime Minister also cautioned about potential further hardships when subsidies for RON 95 are withdrawn.
